Former U.S. Representative Liz Cheney appeared at Colorado College on Sunday and gave a commencement address, during which she received not applause for her anti-Trump stances but instead faced boos and chair-turning from graduates.

She avoided discussing her own political future, including a potential 2024 presidential run, and instead condemned her former GOP colleagues in the House of Reps for not sufficiently, in her view, countering former President Donald Trump’s claims of a “rigged” election in 2020.

Using that to pat herself on the back and encourage the woke students to whom she was speaking, Cheney urged the graduating students to remain steadfast in pursuing the truth. Kyle Becker at Trending Politics News commented on what else Cheney spoke about during her speech, saying:

Cheney’s speech touched on familiar themes she has emphasized since leaving office in January, including her involvement in the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol and her repeated arguments that Trump is a ‘threat to democracy.’

The former representative referenced Cleta Mitchell, a former adviser to Trump, who allegedly warned about polling places on college campuses and the ease of voting at a Republican National Committee retreat. Cheney emphasized the importance of voting as a means to counter those who allegedly seek to undermine the foundations of democracy and the rule of law.

Drawing from her own experience as a political science student at Colorado College, where a Bible verse inscription stated, “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” Cheney discussed the pressure she faced regarding the 2020 election and the January 6 riot. She argued that she had to choose between lying and losing her position in the House leadership.

Speaking about Cleta Mitchell, Cheney said, “Cleta Mitchell, an election denier and adviser to former President Trump, told a gathering of Republicans recently that it is crucially important to make sure that college students don’t vote.” Continuing, she said, “Those who are trying to unravel the foundations of our republic, who are threatening the rule of law and the sanctity of our elections, know they can’t succeed if you vote.”

The students weren’t impressed, finding Liz not sufficiently woke for their tastes. One graduate’s message to Cheney, splashed on her cap, said, “Why listen to a racist, imperialist, transphobic, war monger?? Your hate is loud.

The Daily Mail added that “While many students and parents in the audience applauded throughout Cheney’s remarks, some opposing the choice of Cheney as speaker booed and turned their chairs away from the stage when she spoke.
