The two men responsible for the two highest-earning films of 2022 were noticeably absent from the Oscars awards ceremony Sunday night, snubbing the hoity-toity affair in favor of attending to other things far more compelling and interesting in what Breitbart called a “shark rebuke.”
Tom Cruise and James Cameron, titans of Hollywood and the filmmakers behind the epic Top Gun and Avatar sequels, decided not to glam up for the poorly-received annual awards show despite both having their movies nominated for Best Picture and other accolades.
Breitbart reported that Cruise opted to skip the Oscars, preferring to continue working on his next summer blockbuster. The media outlet wrote:
Tom Cruise reportedly chose to return to work shooting the latest Mission: Impossible movie rather than endure the lengthy Oscars ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. His absence was surprising since Cruise attended the Oscar nominees luncheon in February, where he quickly became the most popular person in the room.
As for Cameron, Breitbart relayed a message from another of Avatar’s producers that Cameron would not attend owing to “personal reasons.” Like Cruise, he had also shown up to other festivities for the week, including a dinner with other nominees just the night before.
“Avatar: The Way of Water was the top-grossing movie of 2022, raking in $2.29 billion worldwide. Not far behind, Top Gun: Maverick grossed $1.49 billion globally,” Breitbart added.
The Oscars provided a memorable moment when Harrison Ford and Ke Huy Quan reunited on stage for an emotional embrace. The internet absolutely loved the interaction, as it brought back Indiana Jones member berries when the two men hugged it out as Indiana and Short Round. Quan was the winner of the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in the critically-acclaimed Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Aside from that, the Oscars provided mostly comic relief. Jimmy Kimmel was roundly panned for failing to deliver a comeback for the ceremony. The American Tribune called him “ratings poison.”
And Angela Bassett got her 15 seconds of fame for refusing to smile or celebrate Jamie Lee Curtis’ winning of the Best Supporting Actress award. Bassett was called a “sore loser
If anything else positive came out of the night, it must have been that the Democrat machine allowed its sycophants to change their message. During his opening monologue, host Jimmy Kimmel began by picking out the low-hanging fruit of last year’s Will Smith disaster. However, things really heated up when he cracked a verboten joke about Joe and Hunter Biden.
“Steven Spielberg and Seth Rogen. What a pair. The Joe and Hunter Biden of Hollywood. Seth, what are you on right now? Be honest … mushrooms, right?”, Kimmel said.
Sure, it could have been better. It’s not like there aren’t things to mention when it comes to the Biden family, but it’s a sign that the political winds are changing.
As far as the reference to last year’s infamous slap, Kimmel got a few laughs by pointing out his precarious position on stage and said he needed to “adjust [his] danger zone.”
“Give me a second, I’ll adjust my danger zone here,” Kimmel said in his very first line, alluding to the area where he stood.
“We want you to have fun, we want you to be safe, and most importantly, we want me to be safe. If anyone commits an act of violence anytime during this show, you will be presented the Oscar for Best Actor and be permitted to give a 19-minute-long speech,” Kimmel said as he continued with the theme of the slap.
