According to Midlothian Police Sgt. Nick Harp, the daring robbery took place at the convenience store, with a white male, later identified as Dylan Bearden, entering the store wearing a black mask and a red and black jacket. As the security video shows, Gaskey was at the counter, preparing to make a purchase when Bearden forcefully pushed him aside. In response, Gaskey initially moved back and raised his hand, seemingly under the impression that Bearden was merely an impatient customer.

However, the situation took a menacing turn when Bearden revealed a fixed blade knife, using it to intimidate the store clerk while demanding money. In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, Gaskey reacted swiftly, lunging forward to grapple with Bearden. Gaskey managed to wrest the knife from the would-be robber and held him down until law enforcement arrived on the scene. As a result of his actions, Bearden now faces charges of Aggravated Robbery.
