Another day, another example of Donald Trump vigorously stoking the fires of controversy by threatening to violate the very constitution he swore to protect.
Readers may be aware of the somewhat worrying murmurings suggesting that the POTUS is eyeing another run for presidency in 2028. This, of course, is impossible according to the US constitution, which expressly forbids an individual from seeking a third time in the White House.
But since when has Trump ever done things by the book? The answer you’re looking for is hardly ever, if at all.
While finding a way to defy the hallowed constitution by putting himself at the helm of the country for a third time would be shocking even by Trump’s standards, the 78-year-old has already started dropping hints that that’s exactly what he will attempt to achieve.
For those perhaps not in-the-know, America’s 22nd Amendment blocks any individual from running for more than two terms in office. A maximum of eight years, then you’re out… regardless of how bad or good your tenure has been.
US Representative Andy Ogles, though, made headlines earlier this year when he championed the idea of finding a loophole to let Trump run again.
They’re priced at $50, with a description reading: “The future looks bright! Rewrite the rules with the Trump 2028 high crown hat. Fully embroidered with a snap closure in the back, this will become your new go-to hat.”
Cue backlash from those who are horrified by the idea, with one person on social media dubbing the new merch “disgusting”.
Another individual on X wrote: “He really thinks he can violate the constitution and the two term limit.. what a joke.”
A third wrote: “Trump wants to be Putin so bad.”
A fourth opined: “Trump 2028 hats are now being sold. It’s a f****** cult.”
