In the weeks since Tim Allen\u2019s new miniseries \u201cThe Santa Clauses\u201d premiered on Disney +, there has been some backlash over how it has approached Christianity. In a new interview, however, Allen is refusing to back down from choosing to \u201chonor the Christian tradition\u201d of the holiday.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s A Christian Holiday\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cWe honor the Christian tradition without heralding it,\u201d Allen explained to Fox News. \u201cIt\u2019s not \u2013 it is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a Christian holiday,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo, we don\u2019t belabor it, but we don\u2019t ignore it. I love the way we deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Allen had previously told The Wrap that he wanted to put the \u201cChrist\u201d back in \u201cChristmas\u201d with this project.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins. I said no, this is Christ-mas. Its Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday,\u201d Allen said. \u201cWe don\u2019t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That\u2019s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you\u2019re gonna have to go back to history, and it\u2019s all about religion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s Really Wonderful\u2019<\/p>\n
Allen went on to say that the writers found a \u201cbrilliant way\u201d to include Christianity in the show.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really wonderful,\u201d he said. \u201cThey took a chance, and we did it really well.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his latest interview, Allen talked about how challenging it was for him to film \u201cThe Santa Clauses\u201d because a miniseries is a \u201cnew format\u201d for him, as he\u2019s spent most of his career making either movies or 30-minute weekly sitcoms.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo get that first episode, get the fourth episode and the sixth episode in my head,\u201d Allen said. \u201cI see the beginning, middle and end as though it\u2019s a six-hour movie. I said, \u2018This thing is very, very good,\u2019 and this is early on, and we continue down this path.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a new format for me, and then I can get my head around it creatively,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s not a television show. It\u2019s not a movie. It\u2019s what we\u2019ve been forced, challenged to do now is a hybrid. It\u2019s a long movie or a very produced, very creatively elevated television program.\u201d<\/p>\n

Allen Not Planning To Retire<\/p>\n
Though Allen is set to turn 70 next year, retirement is not something that he is considering anytime soon.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce I started doing coming to Disney and doing \u2018Home Improvement\u2019 or \u2018Last Man Standing\u2019 or getting on sets, I love every second of it,\u201d he admitted. \u201cI don\u2019t ever feel like I\u2019m working so that I don\u2019t know how to not do this.\u201d<\/p>\n
Allen explained that he doesn\u2019t want to retire because he still \u201cadores\u201d making people laugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if my buddy [Jay] Leno ever said it this way,\u201d Allen said. \u201cHe asked me one time, \u2018Why?\u2019 I go \u2013 \u2018I have had a house in Mexico for many, many, many years.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018What do you what do you do there?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Well, I don\u2019t know,\u2019 and he says, \u2018Retire is just another word for die. Waiting to die.\u2019 And I go, \u2018You know, I never thought of it that way, Jay. And I wish you hadn\u2019t said that.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have two friends that love their retirement \u2013 they play tennis,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey get up and have a leisurely breakfast with the wife. They love their retirement. It takes me almost my entire vacation to finally have two days of relaxation because I love what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n
We all know that the war on Christmas is sadly raging on in this country, so making sure that \u201cThe Santa Clauses\u201d included nods to Christianity was likely not the easiest thing for Allen to make happen in the liberal world of Hollywood. We applaud him for going above and beyond to put the \u201cChrist\u201d back in Christmas in such a big way!<\/p>\n
