However, this is something one teen decided to learn the hard way. The LAPD taught her a painful lesson, but some have since put the officer on blast. Did he go too far?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12841\" src=\"https:\/\/news.republikalajm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot_1-1wm-678x378-1-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Bethany Nava was riding the Metro Red Line train when a police officer, enforcing the passenger code of conduct that prohibits feet on seats, asked her to get off, according to the LA Times. Almost immediately, someone began to record the interaction between Nava and the LAPD sergeant. At the beginning of the clip, you hear the officer asking the 18-year-old to leave the train and motioning her to stand up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI already told you what to do and you didn\u2019t. You disobeyed me. You\u2019re getting off the train,\u201d the officer told the teen, who apparently refused to remove her feet from the seat in order for other passengers, some of which were elderly, to be able to sit down. Sadly, the entitled girl again refused to comply with the officer\u2019s demands. That\u2019s when things took a turn.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12842\" src=\"https:\/\/news.republikalajm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot_9-1wm-678x563-1-300x249.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The Los Angeles police officer grabbed Nava\u2019s arm and began to pull the girl from the train. \u201cStop, let me go,\u201d she insisted. \u201cI paid to be on this train,\u201d she protested further. \u201cYou\u2019re pulling me off the train, I can\u2019t get my stuff,\u201d she added as she continued to resist the LAPD officer, who forcibly dragged her off the public transportation by her arm.<\/p>\n<p>After Nava was removed from the city\u2019s subway, the officer pinned her against the platform wall, Daily Mail reported. \u201cThis is not f*****g fair that you took me off the train because I had my foot there because I was comfortable like that,\u201d she whined after calling the officer an \u201cassh-ole.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12843\" src=\"https:\/\/news.republikalajm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot_11-1wm-298x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>As others gather around, she began to cry. Bystanders, claiming \u201cit\u2019s not a big deal,\u201d begged the officer not to do this as Nava continued to resist, and the cop was forced to call for backup. \u201cEverything is on camera,\u201d someone warned the officer as Nava began to whimper. \u201cAre you f*****g kidding me right now?\u201d another woman swore at the officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no law that tells me that I cannot sit that way because I paid to be in there,\u201d Nava insisted, but the officer was quick to correct her as he replied, \u201cIt\u2019s the rules of the train.\u201d Not to mention, it\u2019s common decency since the train was crowded with people seen standing, unable to find an empty seat.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12844\" src=\"https:\/\/news.republikalajm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/Screenshot_4-1wm-300x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>With an audience on her side, the once whimpering 18-year-old began cursing at the officer again. The other woman, later identified as 22-year-old Selina Lechuga, is quick to join in. \u201cYou think you can do this?\u201d Lechuga demanded after encouraging others to get the officer\u2019s badge number. \u201cF*****g a**hole!\u201d she called the officer, continuing to hurl expletives at him.<\/p>\n<p>The group which gathered continued to heckle the cop. \u201cAre you f*****g kidding me? You really have nothing to do,\u201d Lechuga said as the women continued to argue with the officer on the platform. Then, Lechuga threw the race card, accusing the officer of picking on Nava to meet his monthly arrest quota and saying she won\u2019t leave because she\u2019s going to \u201cstand up for her people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"LAPD cop arrests 18-year-old girl for having her feet on a train seat\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/asFe--s49CE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Eventually, other officers arrived and handcuffed both Nava and Lechuga, who continued swearing as they were taken into custody. \u201cThis is racism. This is what we are: 2018, m**********s like this want to just try to act like they can do whatever they want. F**k you guys,\u201d yelled Lechuga, who appears to then spit at an officer.<\/p>\n<p>Nava\u2019s mother later told KTLA that the high school senior was taken to a hospital with a sprained wrist and claimed that her daughter only had her heel on the edge of her own seat. However, her daughter contradicted those remarks in another interview. Even so, she sued, and because of her allegations, the LAPD was conducting a use-of-force investigation regarding Nava\u2019s arrest and reviewing all of the videos captured of the incident.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Woman Pulled Off Metro Train Files Lawsuit\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3BNN3NWeYAg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to Metro\u2019s 28-page customer code of conduct, Nava was in the wrong. The rules state that \u201cplacing feet or shoes on seats or furnishings\u201d is prohibited disorderly conduct. What\u2019s more, it also says such conduct may be penalized with ejection from the train. Even so, outrage ensued over the officer\u2019s actions with some saying he went too far since they viewed the teen\u2019s behavior as such a small infraction.<\/p>\n<p>Those who seem to think Bethany Nava\u2019s behavior was no big deal should be asked if they want to sit where she\u2019s put her dirty shoes. Many ride public transportation wearing expensive office attire. They shouldn\u2019t have to sit in filth from the shoes of some teen who thinks her comfort is more important than anyone else\u2019s. Rather than defending her daughter, perhaps the girl\u2019s mother should teach her some simple life lessons. First, have some manners. In public, keep your feet on the floor, not on someone else\u2019s furniture.
