After graduating from college, Selleck did some commercial work and had an acting contract with Fox. He put that acting career on hold when he was drafted into the Army in 1967. When he left the Army in 1973, he returned to Fox only to be told they didn\u2019t hold his contract for him while he was serving our country!<\/p>\n
Selleck obviously continued pursuing his passion, and eventually landed his big break. But, he credits it all to Jesus. \u201cA man\u2019s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. Tom says his faith has kept him grounded in a Hollywood culture that highlights and focuses on immediate gratification. \u201cI try very hard to conduct myself in an ethical way because that\u2019s important to my stability now. We\u2019re a culture that\u2019s so centered on the individual,\u201d Selleck stated. \u201cThe culture says that basically nothing is more important than the way you feel. We\u2019re living in an age that celebrates unchecked impulses.\u201d<\/p>\n
What a refreshing thing to hear from someone who has had a successful career in Hollywood! He didn\u2019t let that culture taint his character!<\/p>\n
