Ben & Jerry\u2019s got creamed for its \u2018anti-American\u2019 Fourth of July post, which went into its wayback machine to accuse America on Independence Day of being founded on the genocide of Native Americans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis 4th of July, it\u2019s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it. Learn more and take action now,\u201d the ice cream company said while linking to a\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0filled with cherry-picked historical facts that sugarcoat how Native American tribes had their own warlike histories.<\/p>\n Ben & Jerry\u2019s then churned up support for the Land Back movement, which is no less than an irredentalist movement designed to break up the United States into tribal territories based on claims from centuries ago.<\/p>\n \u201cWhy are we talking about this? Because on the Fourth of July many people in the US celebrate liberty and independence\u2014our country\u2019s and our own,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n \u201cBut what is the meaning of Independence Day for those whose land this country stole, those who were murdered and forced with brutal violence onto reservations, those who were pushed from their holy places and denied their freedom?\u201d the company continued. \u201cThe faces on Mount Rushmore are the faces of men who actively worked to destroy Indigenous cultures and ways of life, to deny Indigenous people their basic rights.\u201d<\/p>\n It should be noted that Ben & Jerry\u2019s is defacing the historical memory of U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Indigenous-led\u00a0Land Back movement(Opens in new window)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is all about restoring the rights and freedoms of Indigenous people,\u201d they added. \u201cIt\u2019s about dismantling white supremacy and systems of oppression and ensuring that Indigenous people can again govern the land their communities called home for thousands of years.\u201d<\/p>\n It is unclear what Ben & Jerry\u2019s means by \u201cwhite supremacy,\u201d given that the United States has a legacy of expanding freedom over the course of its history, according to the Founders\u2019 vision, and has been the most welcoming nation for freedom-seeking immigrants throughout the centuries.<\/p>\n \u201cThe US exists on stolen land. We have to acknowledge that\u2014today and every day,\u201d they added. \u201cIn the case of Mount Rushmore, the Supreme Court already did!
