With the push for \u201cpolitical correctness,\u201d one Texas restaurant chain decided it\u2019s had enough. The owner posted a sign, letting people know they\u2019re not bowing to the demands of others \u2014 and almost immediately, their sales began to soar.<\/p>\n
Jeff Anon, the CEO of Berryhill Baja Grill, was feeling quite fed up with how sensitive everyone has become, so he decided to do his part to push back against politically correct people who think they can control everyone else\u2019s speech, according to ABC News.<\/p>\n
Anon warned his customers that he may offend them by being too \u201cpolitically incorrect.\u201d In fact, at all 9 of his restaurant\u2019s Texas locations, signs were posted warning potential customers that neither Anon nor his employees are politically correct. What\u2019s more, the signage boldly told customers that if they don\u2019t like it, they were free to leave.<\/p>\n
So, if you go to a Berryhill Baja grill, you\u2019ll find signs posted outside the establishment that read, \u201cNotice: This store is politically incorrect. We say \u2018Merry Christmas,\u2019 \u2018God bless America.\u2019 We salute our flag and give thanks to our troops, police officers, and firefighters. If this offends you, you are welcome to leave. In God we trust.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI just got tired of all the news of everybody having to be politically correct,\u201d said Anon, explaining he had seen enough national controversies over things like Christmas, such as the criticism that erupted on social media about Starbucks\u2019 red holiday-themed cups. Anon, who\u2019s a practicing Jew, added that he doesn\u2019t understand why people get so bent out of shape simply from hearing someone say, \u201cMerry Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing wrong with saying \u2018Merry Christmas\u2019 in lieu of \u2018Happy Holidays.\u2019 When people say \u2018Merry Christmas,\u2019 they\u2019re being nice,\u201d Anon explained. \u201cThey\u2019re not trying to be politically incorrect or have religious beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Indeed, it\u2019s such a simple concept, and if a Jewish man isn\u2019t upset by being wished a Merry Christmas rather than a Happy Hanukkah, why should anyone else be offended by it? What\u2019s even cooler about Anon and his restaurants is that he decks them out with both full Christmas and Hanukkah decorations, showing what tolerance, inclusion, and co-existing really look like. Contrary to popular belief, it doesn\u2019t involve exclusion under the guise of being \u201cpolitically correct.\u201d<\/p>\n
The CEO received a ton of support for his efforts, too. \u201cThe outpouring of support has been absolutely terrific. We\u2019re actually getting a lot of requests from people to get the sign,\u201d Anon said, adding that for each negative comment, he receives \u201chundreds\u201d of positive ones.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people say you shouldn\u2019t take religion into the workplace,\u201d Anon furthered before explaining, \u201cWe\u2019re not trying to bring religion into the workplace. It has nothing to do with religion. It\u2019s the spirit of the holidays.\u201d<\/p>\n
