{"id":3538,"date":"2023-08-06T00:56:40","date_gmt":"2023-08-06T00:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailynewsintime.net\/?p=3538"},"modified":"2023-08-06T00:56:40","modified_gmt":"2023-08-06T00:56:40","slug":"catholic-clergy-rebel-against-nasty-nancy-prevent-her-from-taking-communion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailynewsintime.net\/index.php\/2023\/08\/06\/catholic-clergy-rebel-against-nasty-nancy-prevent-her-from-taking-communion\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Clergy Rebel Against Nasty Nancy, Prevent Her From Taking Communion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Since Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco excluded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from obtaining the Eucharist in his diocese on May 20, three more bishops from the conservative side of the Catholic Church have followed since then, citing her public backing for abortion rights as a reason to deny her the sacrament.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Robert Vasa of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, which borders Cordileone\u2019s archdiocese, barred Pelosi from Communion on the same day that Cordileone determined in a public letter for her \u201cto not be admitted to Holy Communion unless and until she publicly repudiates her support for abortion \u2018rights\u2019 and confess and receive absolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have visited with the pastor at St Helena and informed him that if the Archbishop prohibited someone from receiving Holy Communion then that restriction followed the person and that the pastor was not free to ignore it,\u201d Vasa said in his statement,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncronline.org\/news\/people\/speaker-pelosi-now-barred-communion-least-four-dioceses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington and Bishop Joseph E. Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, a well-known conservative firebrand, joined Vasa on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Cordileone, Vasa, Burbidge, and Strickland are among a tiny but vocal number of bishops in the United States who feuded with their peers last summer about whether priests should deny Biden the sacrament because of his support for abortion rights.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"ld-9007-7028\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Months later, a report on the subject was released, with the main recommendation being that American Catholics be better educated on the significance of the Eucharist.<\/p>\n<p>Vasa cited an item of canon law in his speech Friday that, in his view, \u201cmakes it clear that providing sacraments to someone prohibited from receiving them has its own possible penalties.\u201d As per Vasa, a person who willfully administers a sacrament to \u201cthose who are prohibited from receiving it\u201d might be \u201cpunished with suspension\u201d under canon law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion,\u201d according to Canon 915.<\/p>\n<p>Vasa\u2019s reasoning, which defies the widely held assumption that Communion denials are restricted to a single bishop\u2019s diocese, was dismissed by Fr. John Beal, a canon lawyer, and teacher at the Catholic University of America.<\/p>\n<p>In an email, Beal added, \u201cBishops are rarely punctilious about procedural niceties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burbidge, like Vasa, said on a podcast that he intended to respect Cordileone\u2019s prohibition on Pelosi because \u201che is her bishop and as that bishop, the direction and guidance he provides is not limited to just a geographical area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Arlington Diocese stated they couldn\u2019t confirm whether Burbidge and Vasa were making the same argument.<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/trendingviews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pelosi was barred from receiving communion in San Francisco<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was barred from receiving Holy Communion by San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.
