{"id":3944,"date":"2023-10-20T00:06:20","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T00:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailynewsintime.net\/?p=3944"},"modified":"2023-10-20T00:06:20","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T00:06:20","slug":"ford-poised-to-lose-billions-on-ev-lineup-despite-gains-in-revenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailynewsintime.net\/index.php\/2023\/10\/20\/ford-poised-to-lose-billions-on-ev-lineup-despite-gains-in-revenue\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford Poised To Lose Billions On EV Lineup Despite Gains In Revenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like many other prominent auto manufacturers, Ford Motor Company is aggressively expanding its lineup of electric vehicles.\u00a0 However, Ford recently reported that it is projected to lose approximately $4.5 billion from electric vehicles this year.\u00a0 This is a $1.5 billion upward revision from $3 billion.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ford\u2019s second-quarter financial\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2023\/07\/27\/second-quarter-2023-financial-results.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">results,<\/a>\u00a0which were reported last week, \u201cFord Model e,\u201d the name of the electric vehicle division within Ford, has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/ford-set-lose-billion-electric-vehicles-year-despite-increased-revenue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lost<\/a>\u00a0roughly $1.8 billion halfway through the year.\u00a0 The year-end projection of losses of $4.5 billion more than doubles the 2022 losses in the EV division of $2.1 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Ford is enduring these steep losses despite substantial revenue increases.\u00a0 Revenue is up 12 percent year-over-year to $45 billion, where Ford is also seeing higher net income and adjusted EBIT with solid cash and liquidity on hand.\u00a0 More specifically, the Model e division\u2019s revenue has increased by about 39 percent as the car company scales up production and prices the cars competitively.\u00a0 Ford is anticipating to produce 600,000 vehicles per year by 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Ford CEO Jim Farley spoke about the \u201cvolatile\u201d adoption of EVs and how key it is to navigate the new, dynamic space in the car industry.\u00a0<em>\u201cThe shift to powerful digital experiences and breakthrough EVs is underway and going to be volatile, so being able to guide customers through and adapt to the pace of adoption are big advantages for us,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2023\/07\/27\/second-quarter-2023-financial-results.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Farley.\u00a0<em>\u201cFord+ is making us more resilient, efficient, and profitable, which you can see in Ford Pro\u2019s breakout second-quarter revenue improvement (22%) and EBIT margin (15%).\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Farley also stated that the near-term pace of EV adoption is slower than anticipated.\u00a0 However, the CEO indicated that Ford is positioning itself to attain first-mover advantages in the EV space and foster a sense of brand loyalty among its customer base.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\">\n<div id=\"ld-9007-7028\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cThe near-term pace of EV adoption will be a little slower than expected, which is going to benefit early movers \u00a0like Ford,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Farley\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2023\/07\/27\/second-quarter-2023-financial-results.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">continued<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<em>\u201cEV customers are brand loyal and we\u2019re winning lots of them with our high-volume, first-generation products; we\u2019re making smart investments in capabilities and capacity around the world; and, while others are trying to catch up, we have clean-sheet, next-generation products in advanced development that will blow people away.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ford CFO John Lawler stated earlier this year that his company views its electric vehicle division as a startup within Ford Motor Company.\u00a0 Startups typically aren\u2019t expected to attain profitability in the company\u2019s early years.\u00a0 Therefore, Ford isn\u2019t as concerned with the billions of losses as it looks ahead to the future when EV adoption is greater.\u00a0\u00a0<em>\u201cFord Model e is an EV startup within Ford,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Ford CFO John Lawler\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/ford-set-lose-billion-electric-vehicles-year-despite-increased-revenue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>.\u00a0<em>\u201cAs everyone knows, EV startups lose money while they invest in capabilities, develop knowledge, build volume and gain share.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/theamericantribune.com\/automakers-shares-tank-after-evs-push-profits-lower\/\">The American Tribune reported earlier this year on competition within the EV space.<\/a>\u00a0 Tesla had been accused of \u201cweaponizing\u201d price cuts made possible with its vast economies of scale.\u00a0 Subsequently, other auto manufacturers, such as Ford, were forced to play their hand and lower prices on their EV lineup.\u00a0 Shares of Ford Motor Company took a hit as shareholders were concerned about the impact this would have on profitability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like many other prominent auto manufacturers, Ford Motor Company is aggressively expanding its lineup of electric vehicles.\u00a0 However, Ford recently reported that it is projected to lose approximately $4.5 billion from electric vehicles this year.\u00a0 This is a $1.5 billion upward revision from $3 billion.
