President Donald Trump\u2019s Department of Justice has asked the US Supreme Court to halt a number of cases involving policies from President Joe Biden\u2019s administration, such as those pertaining to environmental regulations and student loan forgiveness. Sarah Harris, the acting solicitor general, submitted motions to the court requesting a postponement of proceedings until the new administration examines Biden\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n
In the upcoming months, the Supreme Court was scheduled to hear arguments in these cases. In order to put the cases on indefinite hold, Trump\u2019s DOJ is now attempting to freeze all deadlines. Over 5 million students had their debts forgiven under Biden\u2019s student loan forgiveness program, but it was challenged in court by some Republican attorneys general who claimed Biden had overreached himself.<\/p>\n
Biden\u2019s \u201cborrower defense\u201d rule, which sought to cancel loans for students who had been defrauded, was blocked by the 5th Circuit Court. Although the Trump administration\u2019s request may make these cases moot, the Supreme Court had agreed to review them.
