Missouri Republicans have approved a new congressional map that is expected to strengthen GOP control in the state, sending the measure to Governor Mike Kehoe\u2019s desk for final approval.<\/p>\n
The map passed the state Senate in a 21-11 vote on Friday, following earlier approval by the House. If enacted, it would shift Missouri\u2019s current 6-2 Republican-to-Democrat congressional delegation to a 7-1 split, giving the GOP an additional seat ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.<\/p>\n
Former President Donald Trump applauded the move on Truth Social, calling it a \u201cmuch fairer, and much improved, Congressional Map.\u201d He added, \u201cIt will help send an additional MAGA Republican to Congress in the 2026 Midterm Elections\u2026 Wonderful to see Republicans in the \u2018Show Me State\u2019 standing up to Save our Country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Supporters of the new map say it corrects what they view as unfair boundaries created during the last redistricting cycle, which protected Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver\u2019s district in Kansas City. State Senator Nick Schroer, a Republican and Freedom Caucus member, told\u00a0The Daily Wire<\/em>\u00a0that the new plan keeps St. Charles and Warren counties intact and creates a more compact and competitive district.<\/p>\n \u201cSo by keeping these counties together\u2026 it\u2019s making that seat more competitive,\u201d Schroer said.<\/p>\n Democrats have criticized the redistricting effort as a partisan power grab and accused Trump of meddling in state affairs.
