During an appearance on conservative commentator Scott Jennings\u2019s podcast, Carr questioned whether the show should remain exempt from the FCC\u2019s equal time rule, which requires broadcast stations to offer equal airtime to all qualified political candidates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether\u00a0<em>The View<\/em>\u00a0still qualifies,\u201d Carr said. While some shows qualify due to their coverage of current events and commentary, he argued that\u00a0<em>The View<\/em> may fall outside those boundaries. \u201cPotentially, you could make the argument it is a bona fide news show, but I\u2019m not so sure about that,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Carr\u2019s remarks follow his criticism of ABC\u2019s\u00a0<em>Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em>\u00a0after the host made controversial statements about the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. Kimmel was suspended shortly afterward, raising questions about FCC pressure on networks over political content.<\/p>\n<p>The equal time rule applies only to broadcast license holders\u2014not cable or streaming services\u2014but does allow exceptions for news interviews, documentaries, and legitimate news programs. Carr suggested that\u00a0<em>The View<\/em>\u2019s format, which blends political talk with celebrity interviews and entertainment, may no longer meet the criteria for exemption.<\/p>\n<p>ABC has not responded publicly to Carr\u2019s comments or stated whether it believes\u00a0<em>The View<\/em>\u00a0qualifies for exemption.
