State Trooper Brian recalls reaching the top of the mountain and feeling winded. \nMissing children during the day is one thing- but when night comes and the temperature drops, it becomes even more dangerous.A New York State Trooper named Brian Hotchkiss was the man in charge of the search party- and he was well aware of how serious the situation was.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese missing kids, it can go really bad. It\u2019s time-sensitive depending on the time of year, so although it was a nice day the temperature was dropping,\u201d Brian said.<\/p>\n
He and the search party spent some time knocking on doors through the neighborhood, but no one seemed to know the whereabouts of the little girl.
\nAs night fell, Brian made the decision to begin climbing the mountain that was half an hour from the girl\u2019s home.<\/p>\n
It took half an hour to reach the top of the mountain, by which time Brian was \u2018winded\u2019. All he could see at first was the green and brown of the trees.But then, he spotted a pink dot in the distance.<\/p>\n
The speck of pink was stationary on a rock next to the stream. Brian\u2019s heart dropped as he began to run over. He hoped that the child was alive.<\/p>\n
\u201cI followed the stream and I located the child, she was lying on her stomach on a rock, and I ran over as quick as possible and I saw her arm move and I knew she was alive and my heart just dropped. I was so excited, I ran up and she hugged me immediately, she wouldn\u2019t let go,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
It was clear that the little girl was relieved to have been found. She clung onto Brian as if her life depended on it- which in a way, it did!It may have been a completely different story if Brian hadn\u2019t have decided to take his search party up the mountain.<\/p>\n
The girl was shivering when Brian got to her, so another trooper wrapped her in his uniform to warm her up.She was then taken away in an ambulance to check that she was okay. Thankfully, the hospital gave her the all-clear, and she was able to go back home again.<\/p>\n
Brian was left reflecting on the dramatic events of that day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still can\u2019t get that out of my head, her turning over and looking at me and throwing her hands up in the air. I\u2019ll never forget that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The story of the little girl\u2019s rescue was shared on news outlets all over the US, and people took to the comments section on YouTube to praise Brian\u2019s quick thinking.One person said: \u201cThank you very much for your service, sir, and be careful out there. We can\u2019t afford to lose you.\u201d<\/p>\n
