\nElon Musk\u2019s acquisition of Twitter has some in Hollywood heading for the exit.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrey\u2019s Anatomy\u201d creator Shonda Rhimes and others in the entertainment industry say they plan to quit the platform now that it is owned by Musk, a self-proclaimed \u201cfree speech absolutist\u201d who has vowed to make sweeping changes \u2014 including potentially reversing the ban on former President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,\u201d Rhimes tweeted to her nearly 2 million Twitter followers Saturday afternoon, two days after Musk closed his $44 billion deal to purchase the service.
\nHere\u2019s a running list of other folks from the overlapping worlds of television, movies, music and sports who say they plan to leave.<\/p>\n

\nIn a tweet to her nearly 2 million followers Friday, the Grammy-winning R&B star decried the content she said she had seen on Twitter since Musk\u2019s takeover, writing in part: \u201cI\u2019m shocked and appalled at some of the \u2018free speech\u2019 I\u2019ve seen on this platform since its acquisition.<\/p>\n
\u201cHate speech under the veil of \u2018free speech\u2019 is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC,\u201d Braxton added, using an initialism for people of color.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m shocked and appalled at some of the \u201cfree speech\u201d I\u2019ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of \u201cfree speech\u201d is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC.<\/p>\n

\nFoley, a retired professional wrestler and actor, said in a post on his public, verified Facebook page that he is taking a \u201cbreak\u201d from Twitter \u201csince the new ownership \u2014 and the misinformation and hate it seems to be encouraging \u2014 has my stomach in a knot.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI really do enjoy connecting with all of you on social media, but it can get overwhelming sometimes. I think I\u2019ll be back on in a few weeks, but in the meantime, I will continue to post on Facebook and Instagram,\u201d Foley wrote Friday. \u201cI hope all of you will be kind to one another.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease vote if you can too \u2014 our democracy seems to be hanging on by a thread,\u201d he added. (Foley\u2019s Twitter account appears to have been deactivated.)<\/p>\n
Whoopi Goldberg
\nGoldberg, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning co-host of \u201cThe View,\u201d announced on the ABC talk show Monday that she is \u201cdone with Twitter\u201d for the time being.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to get out, and if it settles down and I feel more comfortable maybe I\u2019ll come back,\u201d Goldberg said on the show.<\/p>\n
Goldberg\u2019s account appeared to be deactivated as of Monday afternoon. Goldberg\u2019s publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

\nThe model deactivated her Twitter account on Friday and explained her decision in a post on Instagram, writing in part that the social media platform was \u201cbecoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t say it\u2019s a safe place for anyone, not a social platform that will do more good than harm,\u201d Hadid wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\nKoppelman, a co-creator of the Showtime dramas \u201cBillions\u201d and \u201cSuper Pumped: The Battle for Uber,\u201d recently tweeted: \u201cY\u2019all\u2019s, for real, come find me over on instagram and the tok.
